INAMOTO Hyakuten Sensei coming to New York to teach Reiki as it was taught in the 1930s in Japan

October 14-16, 2011 Reiki is a healing practice that originated in Japan. Reiki practitioners places their hands lightly on or just above the person receiving the treatment with the goal of facilitating the person's own healing response. In the United States, Reiki is part of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).

According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey(NHIS), which included a comprehensive survey of CAM use by Americans, more than 1.2 million adults had used an energy healing such as Reiki, in the previous year. The survey also found out that approximately 161, 000 children had used an energy healing therapy in the previous year.

Usui Mikao Sensei (1865-1926)

Mikao Usui is the Founder of the Usui Reiki Ryoho (Healing Art). Sensei commonly known by the name "Mikao" with an extra name "Gyohan" is from Taniai-mura (village), Yamaga-gun(country), Gifu-ken(perfecture). Sensei was born on August 15, 1865. His father's name was Taneuji, and was commonly called Uzaemon. His mother was from Kawai family.

It was in Mount Kurama-yama, after 21 days of a severe discipline without eating, that he attained enlightenment and obtained Reiki Ryoho. Then, he tried it on himself and experimented on his family members. Sensei thought that it would be far better to offer it widely to the general public and share its benefits than just to improve the well being of his own family members.

In April 11, 1922, he settled in Harajuku, Aoyama, Tokyo and set up the Gakkai to teach Reiki Ryoho and give treatments. In September, 1923, there was a great earthquake... Sensei, feeling pity for them, went out every morning to go around the town, and he cured and saved an innumerable number of people.

The Five Precepts
"Today, do not anger"
"Do not worry"
"Be thankful"
"Work with diligence"
"Be kind to others"

***To the spirit of Usui Mikao Sensei, thank you for the gift of Reiki. Reiki is a blessing.

Reiki Facts-INAMOTO Hyakuten Sensei

Reiki Facts - Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei
*Reiki Ryoho (healing method) is to channel the energy of the universe and an inspired healing art of Usui Sensei, not the outcome of his researches, or discovery, or re-discovery.

Usui Mikao Sensei was from beginning to end a
lay Buddhist.

HAYASHI Chujiro Sensei (1879-1940) was one of the directors of Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. He made 13 Shihans (Teachers), and two of them were women, namely his wife, Mrs. Hayashi Chie, and Mrs. Hawayo Takata.

Mrs. Hawayo Takata was visited by Hayashi Sensei in 1938 and initiated her into Shinpiden (Reiki Shihan or Teacher)

***Because of Chujiro Hayashi Sensei and Mrs. Hawayo Takata, Reiki hands-on healing method has become widespread in the West.

It is Reiki that does a fine job of healing, not you. (You as a Reiki practitioner do not do any healing, but you are very essential for Reiki healing).

HAND POSITIONS: serves as guidelines. Later, students can have their own variations of hand positions. Eventually, we just follow our hands/intuitions.

***TEATE means hands on
***Traditionally, there are no set hand positions except some positions on the head.

Usui Sensei, the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho, created the Gokai (the 5 principles) based on the phrase in the opening page of a book "Kenzon no Genri" written by Dr. Suzuki Bizan (published in December 28, 1914.)

***The phrase titled “A Path to Soundness” reads”
Today only
Be not angry,
Be not fearful,
With honesty,
Perform diligently your duty,
Be kind to others

Komyo Reiki Kai, the system Inamoto Sensei has created, presents Reiki as it was understood and commonly practiced in the 1930’s in Japan. This system places emphasis on spiritual enfoldment through the practice of Reiki Ryoho, aiming for “satori” or enlightenment. Inamoto Sensei learned Reiki from Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi who had trained with Chujiro Hayashi Sensei, one of Usui Sensei’s original students.
